Innovative Grassroots Solutions -

Studies have shown that grassroots initiatives, started by families with a vested interest in the ultimate results, have proven to be immensely more successful
than programs developed by government agencies.

Noah’s Ark continues to be a leader of innovative grassroots solutions that help
meet the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities.  Almost all of these solutions involve active community partnerships and collaboration.  Here are a few examples of current Noah’s Ark initiatives:

Noah's Landing - An innovative, pedestrian-oriented community
uniquely designed to address the unique needs of individuals who are intellectually
challenged, their caregivers and their families.  This initiative shows promise
of emerging as a national model.

Noah's Nest - An unique little "in-town" neighborhood ideally located close to shopping, public transportation and employment.  This home provides three individuals with developmental disabilities the opportunity to live independently in a supported-living environment.

The Transition Program at Florida Southern College - An innovative partnership with a 90% success rate at preparing ESE students for independent living and acquiring competitive employment BEFORE THEY GRADUATE.  Named the "Best Exceptional Student Education Program in Florida" in 2005.

Social and Recreational Opportunities - Regular opportunities for an
individual to go out and have a good time and make new friends.

Life Skills Training - Activities designed to expand and enhance the individual’s independent living skills.

Advocacy and Community Education - Helping families connect to proper agencies and teaching them how to navigate the "red tape" of the system.

Employment - Connecting the students that have acquired appropriate levels of employment skills with local area employers within the greater community.
