Noah’s Nest - An Affordable "In-Town" Housing Initiative -

Individuals with developmental disabilities have few realistic housing options available.  Frequently, these options are either too expensive, or not handicapped accessible, or located in neighborhoods that make the residents easy prey for predators.

Noah’s Ark has developed an innovative program that makes affordable and accessible rental homes available in safe neighborhoods.  This initiative leverages community resources by using volunteers to help build the homes along with donations and gifts-in-kind from the local business community to acquire the materials.

Phase One of Noah’s Nest was a partnership between Noah’s Ark and the First United Methodist Church (FUMC) of Lakeland.  In this partnership, the FUMC has purchased and donated to Noah’s Ark three building sites in the Lake Morton Historic District.  Additionally, many volunteers from within the FUMC congregation have responded to the need and  contributed significantly to making the first home at Noah’s Nest a reality.

The first Noah’s Nest home is helping empower three ladies with developmental disabilities live independently in a supported-living environment.

Phase Two of Noah's Nest is was completed in mid-2007.  It includes two additional homes and a two-story garage with an apartment on the second floor.

Currently,
Noah's Nest offers eleven individuals with developmental disabilities the opportunity to live independently in an inclusive supported-living environment while freely engaging in the community.  For more information on this initiative, contact Noah's Ark at (863) 687-0804.
